IEL is engaged in Zone 1 which
comprises of the four northern atolls: Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaal, Shaviyani
and Noonu. According to the total fish catch from 1995 to 2000 in Zone1, the average fish landings per year in Haa Alifu Atoll was 7901 metric tons compared to 1998 metric tons in Haa Dhaal Atoll, 4787 metric tons in Shaviyani Atoll and 1635 metric tons in Noonu Atoll. Major fishing islands in the region are Huvarafushi, Ihavandu, Dhidhoo, Vashafaru, Baarah and Filladhoo. |
